A-MAN, Inc. is a non-profit corporation comprised of community leaders interested in providing a brighter future for African-American, Latino and Hispanic girls and boys 5-18 years of age in Los Angeles County by fostering an interest in science and technology. To utilize science and technology as a motivational tool and advance the educational achievement, intellectual and career development of students. A-MAN,Inc. seeks partnerships with individuals and institutions who share the vision to increase diversity in the special interest fields of science and technology.
To increase the number of African-American and other students who are excited about and who enter the fields of science and technology.
INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE DISCOVERY AND LEARNING CENTER
The year round International Science Discovery and Learning Center (ISD&L) is provided for students and fosters an interest in science through hands-on activities to prepare students to be outstanding citizens in the next millennium. The after school, weekend and summer program is an exciting environment using laser beams; robotics lab; science lab; computer lab; multimedia lab; reading/mathematics lab; research lab and a permanent exhibit on the Tuskegee Airmen.
Serving about 1200 students in Los Angeles County regardless or race, color, religious creed’ national origin; financial need; sex; ancestry; physical disability; or medical condition. In addition, satellite sites are being replicated across the nation and in the country of South Africa.

The African-American Male Achiever’s Network, Inc. (A-MAN) was founded in 1991 as an outgrowth of a pilot educational research project headed by Dr. Bettye Walker and funded by the University of California at Los Angeles. A-MAN, Inc. is a California State approved mentoring program.
During the President’s Summit on America’s Future in Philadelphia, A-MAN signed a proclamation of commitment to replicate the ISD&L concept at 200 V/R sites across the nation. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is a partner in this program.
Mr. Hildreth (Hal) Walker, Jr., scientist, is the board chairman/co-founder. He is also the president /owner of TECH PLUS, an international laser consulting firm. Mr. Walker’s Apollo 11 Lunar Laser ranging experiment is located in the National Smithsonian Museum American History in the permanent exhibit, “Science in American Life.”
